Here is the plain-English version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your water is mostly H&#8322;O &mdash; but not entirely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You already know water as H&#8322;O: two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. What most people never learn is that not all hydrogen is identical. A small fraction of it is a heavier version called <strong>deuterium<\/strong> &mdash; a hydrogen atom carrying an extra neutron, which makes it roughly twice as heavy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When that heavy hydrogen bonds with oxygen, you get &#8220;heavy water&#8221; molecules (HDO) mixed in with your ordinary H&#8322;O. It looks the same, it tastes the same, and it is completely natural. Regular drinking water contains about <strong>190 parts per million (ppm)<\/strong> of deuterium &mdash; a tiny amount, but a measurable one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So what is deuterium-depleted water?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deuterium-depleted water (DDW) is exactly what the name says: water with <em>less<\/em> deuterium than normal. Nothing is added to it. Through a purification process, the naturally occurring heavy hydrogen is reduced &mdash; so instead of ~190 ppm, you are drinking water at a lower concentration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cancro is depleted to <strong>125 ppm<\/strong>, which is about <strong>34% less<\/strong> deuterium than standard water. The thinking behind DDW is that reducing the deuterium load may ease some of that molecular drag. Your body already works to manage deuterium naturally &mdash; but that ability tends to decline with age and stress, which is part of why the topic has drawn scientific interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers in Hungary, Russia, Japan and the US have been studying DDW since the 1990s, and there are now 15+ peer-reviewed papers on the subject. The results are promising and the field is active &mdash; but it is still an emerging area, and we are careful not to overstate it.
